About the Black Rhino
The Black Rhino lives in a grassland forest transition zone. These habitats are ranging from desert in southwestern Africa to the Montane forests in Kenya. These animals have made a huge impact on humans lives. But we have taken this gift too far. In the world there are only an estimated 4838 Black Rhinos left on earth. Due to poaching, hunting, and habitat loss these animals are now critically endangered.
A Black Rhino, also known as the Hook Lipped Rhino, isn't actually that much different from the White Rhino. They have no predators but they do have to keep a lookout because they are hunted by humans. Also they may be hunted and eaten by hyenas and lions, so they do have to look out for predators. They normally have a very slow day; a trip to the water hole, and are herbivore browsers so they have a nice meal of woody twigs and legumes. They do all this alone, unless they are breeding. Rhinos reproduce sexually. Breeding happens all throughout the year, but each calf is 2-5 years apart.
5 Special Facts about the Black Rhino:
1. The difference between a White Rhino and a Black Rhino is in their lips.
2. Females only reproduce every 2-5 years.
3. Black Rhinos feed at dusk and dawn.
4. Rhinos have sharp hearing and keen sense of smell.
5. Rhinos find one another by following a scent on a trail.
